Just remember these basics

What is WORJONG?

WORJONG is a board game you play together using WORJONG tiles.

What are WORJONG tiles?

WORJONG tiles are like playing cards.

Each tile has one letter, A–Z.

WORJONG tiles are called tiles.

How to Play

How to Play — Diagram

4 players each start with 11 tiles!

On your turn, draw 1 tile.

You can hold no more than 11 tiles.

So you must discard 1 tile to bring your hand back to 11.

Discard the tile you need least.

After you discard a tile, it is the next player's turn.

Draw 1 tile, then discard 1 tile.

Draw 1, discard 1.

Repeat this counterclockwise.

Change your letters little by little to get closer to the hand you want.

What Are You Aiming For?

Aim for a hand with 4 3-letter English words.

For example: BIG, DOG, SKY, FLY.

3 tiles, 3 tiles, 3 tiles, and 3 tiles make 12 tiles in total.

This is called an Agari hand.

Being 1 tile away from an Agari hand is called Tenpai.

For example: BIG, DOG, SKY, FL.

If you have these 11 tiles, you are in Tenpai.

Riichi

When you reach Tenpai, let everyone know.

Declare Riichi.

After declaring Riichi, you can no longer change your current 11 tiles.

Discard the tile you draw unless it completes your Agari hand.

Agari

You drew the tile you wanted yourself!

This is called a Tsumo Agari.

Everyone gives you points to celebrate.

Even if you do not draw it yourself, you can achieve Agari if someone else discards the tile you want.

This is a Ron Agari.

This time, you receive points from the player who discarded the tile.

In WORJONG, you compete to collect as many of these points as possible.

After Agari

The tiles held by the player who achieved Agari and that player's discarded tiles disappear.

Now there are 0 tiles.

With fewer than 11 tiles, you can draw up to 4 on your turn.

So after Agari, you draw 4 tiles, then 4, then 3…

You sit out for 3 cycles of turns until you have drawn 11 tiles.

When Does the Game End?

In WORJONG…

Play starts at EAST 1 and ends at NORTH 4.

When someone achieves Agari, play advances from EAST 1 to EAST 2, then EAST 3.

Agari at EAST 4 takes the game to SOUTH 1.

Likewise, SOUTH 4 leads to WEST 1, and WEST 4 to NORTH 1…

When someone achieves Agari at NORTH 4, the game ends.

At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins the game.
